Today began with the rosary and a cup of coffee, a great start to any day. After breakfast, the team traveled to the city of Santiago, about 45 minutes from our campus, to interact with kids at a sports camp organized by the Mission of Hope and Pastor Elbis. Pastor Elbis is one of the many pastors who partner with MOH to spread the Gospel throughout the neighboring communities.
During the camp, the kids learned basketball and soccer skills, using staff and equipment provided by MOH along with local interpreters. It was nice to see the smiles on their faces as the boys and girls had fun learning the skills and interacting with us. Our hope was that they enjoyed the diversion from the everyday routine to which they are accustomed.
As we left the complex, we felt that our presence made a difference in their lives. We’re looking forward to vacation bible school tomorrow morning followed by the construction project in the afternoon.
