After a day yesterday managing some adversity, we were able to accomplish a lot today. We were able to finish the food pantry for the local church we’re working with, even though we still didn’t have power. Our team was also able to finish building kitchen cabinets for a local family who didn’t have a kitchen. They had a little boy who liked to watch us work.
I’m new to the mission team and I’m amazed at our team and how well everyone works together to get the job done. Tim leads our construction projects and is willing to take the time to show the rest of us how to do things. There is also a sense of what more can we do, what else is needed that we can offer. The work is done with humility and caring for the community we’re serving.
One of the other things that has struck me while being here is how much everyone in the community supports one another. These people have so little, yet everyone will jump in to help their neighbors. Whether it be trying to fix the electric, letting us run an extension cord to the neighbors house or helping us paint. We have a lot to learn. It reminds me of a part of the Peace Prayer from St Francis of Assisi, it is in giving that we receive. We have received so much. Stacey Trapp
