Today was the best day! It started with a rendition of “Oh Canada” to celebrate Canada Day with our adopted team member Dianne.
After some instruction from the Interns, we headed off to a small neighborhood to do strategic village time. We visited four homes and the homeowners could not have been any more gracious. We were fortunate enough to learn that three of these homes were Catholic! Glory Be! Their stories tugged at my heart. The hardships and struggles they have endured would bring most of us to our knees. Yet these people are resilient and full of complete joy. Visiting with these beautiful people lifted my spirits.
This afternoon, we had Kids Camp at the local church. The children began with a scripture related lesson. Our team brought several hundred beads for craft time. After preparing the bead material for the kids, in the stifling heat, we helped them make bracelets and such. Not a bead was left behind. The children treasured each piece with abundant care.
The children were given a hot meal of rice and beans, chicken, slaw, lettuce and potato salads. Quite a plateful for those little hands!
Being here in the Dominican Republic is a stark contrast to Haiti. Although part of the same island, the DR is different from Haiti. Here, they have trees and electricity?? However, the need for the Mission work that we do, is just as great.
We really miss our friends in Haiti, but we are happy to make new friends in the villages of the DR.
I feel so blessed to have received the call to serve. I can hardly wait to see what God has in store for us tomorrow.

So glad you are deep into relationship with the people…I know how you treasure that.
