Today we felt like we were in our element. We have looked forward to getting our hands dirty since we arrived here last Saturday.
We started demoing a tenement-style house. The owner had so few personal items he just placed them in the alley while we worked. Several mission team members along with neighbors pitched in to make quick work of the demo. It was amazing to think that a house could come down so fast.
Digging of the trenches began after the demo for the block work. Hopefully the blocks will arrive tomorrow, so the home can be rebuilt, and the home owner will be able to move back in. We all wondered where he will stay tonight.
You do not often get to see the fruits of your efforts nor the impact it has on people. However, building a house from start to finish will allow us to do so.
Despite the lack of tools at our disposal and the extreme heat, the project was satisfying, and we look forward to returning to the site tomorrow. Everyone will sleep well tonight.
God Bless.
