The home rehab project progressed despite a few Dominican obstacles. We started to see the fruits of our labor as the walls began to come together. It is beginning to look like a home with two bedrooms, a full kitchen and a bathroom. While the work within the home continued, a new project began outside. Beneath piles of trash and debris, the group discovered an outside patio. With a lot of hard work and creativity, the group transformed this area into a nice quite private space for the grandmother who lives in the home.
The group decided to replace the old refrigerator that was scrapped with a new one. With the help of an interpreter, we located an appliance store and purchased a new refrigerator. We wondered how we would get it to the house. We found out that only in the DR can you hire a taxi to deliver a refrigerator. Shopping is always an adventure in another country.
Upon returning to the project, we found the group had finished the patio and began working on the kitchen. You would think that working on the kitchen and the bedroom wall project in such a small area would be chaotic. However, the group made it work.
We’re looking forward to completing the project tomorrow unless another obstacle finds us.
